Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Borussia Dortmund travel to Wembley on Wednesday evening to face Tottenham in the first leg of their last 16 clash in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga leaders come into the game following two disappointing domestic results. Having drawn 3-3 with Werder Bremen and go out of the German Cup on penalties, they then squandered a 3-0 lead at home to Hoffenheim in the league to draw once more.

Spurs, for their part, kept their outside hopes of the Premier League title alive with a 3-1 win over Leicester and despite injuries to key players, remain well placed domestically.

Latest odds

These two sides met in last season’s group stages, with Spurs winning both games. The north Londoners are offered at 5/4 (2.25) to record another victory, whilst Dortmund can be backed at 21/10 (3.10) and the draw is available at 12/5 (3.40).

Team news

Mauricio Pochettino is still without Harry Kane and Dele Alli. Eric Dier and Erik Lamela both missed the weekend win over Leicester but should be back in the matchday squad, although full-back Ben Davies is expected to miss out with a groin problem.

Dortmund have major concerns over Marco Reus with the forward almost certain to miss out at Wembley with a muscle injury. Full-back Lukasz Piszczek is also a doubt with a heel problem.

Preview

Despite both teams having some injury issues, there are still plenty of reasons to expect a high-scoring game at Wembley.

Dortmund are by far the top scoring side in the Bundesliga where their games average 3.67 goals this season and in the 31 fixtures they have played in all competitions this term, they have only failed to score in three.

Spurs, meanwhile, have scored in each of their last 16 matches in the Champions League, with four of their six group games seeing over 2.5 goals.

As well, the north Londoners have only kept three clean sheets in their last 17 matches in the tournament - with two of those coming against Cypriot minnows APOEL Nicosia.

Tips and predictions

Over 2.5 goals in the game is priced at 17/20 (1.85) and looks like an excellent option, with both teams to score priced at 4/6 (1.66).

Combining both these selections gives healthy odds of 11/10 (2.10) while for a real value bet, both teams to score in both halves at 11/1 (12.00) could be of interest.
