Newcastle may have left it late, but are beginning to strengthen in key areas of the squad. The Magpies ended the 2017/18 campaign on a high with a 3-0 win over Chelsea, but will be keen to avoid a similar start to last season where they lost 2-0 to Tottenham.
Spurs are paying the price for their players going so far in the World Cup as they boast a lengthy absentee list coming into their opening game of the season and are, at the time of writing, yet to do any business in the transfer market. They won both league games against Newcastle last season, however, and have won three of their last four visits to St. James' Park.
However, any hopes of a repeat of their 2-0 win over Newcastle last term will depend on what Magpies side turns up. The fans will be desperate for a positive result, with a draw on the cards.
