Manchester City v Rotherham United Somewhat surprisingly City have won just three of their last seven FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division, but the Millers have lost their last five FA Cup games and have conceded at least twice on each occasion. I am writing this before City’s home Premier League game with Liverpool but, whatever the outcome of Thursday’s fixture, I expect City to make serene progress against a Millers side whose main objective is to maintain their Championship status at the end of the season.

City are clear favorites here; we expect that Pep Guardiola will want to rest his key players after the grueling festive period fixtures in preparation for the tough league matches ahead but they will still have the quality to see off Rotherham at home. As for the Championship side, the biggest concern at the moment is picking points to fuel their survival quest and they head to The Etihad with no pressure to win. Rotherham have two wins in their last 19 matches and they have conceded in each of their last 12 matches while they have no win in their last 16 competitive away matches. It is such a poor record for the Championship side, who have lost 11 of the last 15 away games and they will have a really tough outing against City who have 13 wins in 15 home matches. City have six wins in their last 10 FA Cup matches while Rotherham United have five straight losses in the competition. This will be just the second meeting between the two sides; City have never lost to Rotherham United, winning one and drawing the other. The only two meetings between the two sides came in the Championship in 2001/02 season.
